Access to health data in Quebec - legal perspective

This webinar is presented by the Association pour la santé publique du Québec (ASPQ), Unité de soutien SRAP du Québec, International observatory on the societal impacts of AI and digital technology (OBVIA) and the law office FASKEN. This webinar is about access to research data.

In the first part, a presentation by Ms. Aya Barbach and Mr. William Deneault-Rouillard from the law office FASKEN discusses the effects and potential issues in relation to Bill 64 on research in Quebec.

In the second part, patient, researchers and decision-makers discuss the consequences of lack of access to information for the health of the population.

Led by Mr Thomas Bastien, director general of ASPQ, this round table is made up of Mr Alain Vanasse, scientific director of the Unité de soutien SRAP du Québec, Mr Sylvain Bédard, patient coordinator at the Centre d’excellence sur le partenariat avec les patients et le public, Mr Philippe Després, co-lead of the sustainable health axis of the OBVIA, Mr Richard Lessard, interim public health director of the CISSS de Lanaudière and associate clinical professor of the École de santé publique at Université de Montréal and Ms. Roxane Borgès Da Silva, associate professor at ESPUM, fellow at CIRANO and researcher and healthcare and public health systems axis director at CRESP.

Prostate cancer is the second most frequent cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among men. To improve patient outcomes, treatment must be personalized based on accurate prognosis. Nomograms already exist to identify patients at low risk for recurrence based on preoperative clinical information, but these tools do not use patients’ medical images.
